A day in wintery Sweden

Hi everyone!

We here at Lyseo in Finland had the opportunity to go visit a university in north Sweden a few weeks back. Luleå tekniska universitet is about a 4 hours drive away from Oulu and it has the northernmost theater academy in the world.

The day started at 7 in the morning when the bus left our school. After the long but hilarious bus trip we arrived in Luleå. First we were told what the school is all about, what you can study and something about freetime activities the students have. After that we ate lunch at the campus. In the afternoon we got to see the faculties of which each of us was interested the most, so I chose the department of health care. At three o'clock we went downtown and did some intense shopping :) The shops were amazing and clothes are a bit cheaper over there.

So for us finns swedish may not always be the most fun thing to study since we all HAVE to. But it was nice to see that if you really want to, you can use it and go study abroad. I might consider that option.

Merry Christmas to you all in advance!

A trip in the USA for French students !

Four weeks ago, people who take the European option (it’s a class which has more hours of English and one of the class presented in english) went to the United states of America. The travel was an exchange with other pupils of Thomas Jefferson high school which is very closed to Washington DC. It permitted to discover the American culture and compare it with the French culture. The schedule was simple : during one week and half, French pupils were in class in order to improve their comprehension and expression in different class like government, geosystem, statistics (maths), complexes (maths)... Globally, we were totally integrated in the America's life. at the end of the second week, we went to New York, and we visited the most famous buildings in the world like the Empire State building, the Rockfeller Center, and the Statue of Liberty... Conclusion : a very interesting strip for all !
Waiting for the American students coming to France...

Mooooi!

Yes, I know I should have done this ages ago, but like Anniina said: better late than never! ;)

Okay, so my name is Niko Karttunen and I'm 18 years old and currently studying in Oulun Lyseo upper secondary school (as an abi aka. senior!). I live in a small village, surrounded by potato fields , called Tyrnävä, which is about 30km away from the city center and school. Every single morning I have to wake up early to catch the bus and the journey from my home to the school takes about 1 hour so that pretty much sucks :( Luckily I got my driving license and my own car this summer so eases my travelling :D

The reason I applied to this project was because I wanted to meet new people from different cultures and get to know with the people and culture they represent. I also want to improve my English and the all-most-free-trip to abroad was also a HUUUGE plus! :P

On my free time I just hang out with my friends, travel, read books, do some sports, listen to good music, party, all most everything! :D

Well, I guess that's all I have to tell to you :) If you haven't added my in FB, please do so and send me a request to join the Comenius-group in Facebook.

See ya when I see you, Niko

Hey hoy

Hey, I'm a bit late with this but better late than never! : DD

Hello there!
My name is Anniina Holappa (18yo!) and I’m second-year student. I live (on my own) in Oulu, about 2 kilometers away from the center and our school, Oulun lyseo upper secondary.
What would I say about myself? Well, I’m quite social person and I like company of other people. I’m really interested about different cultures and people, and I love travelling. (That is one of the reasons why I applicated to this project… : D) But also, I’d like to improve my language skills and get to know new exciting people!
And of course, new experiences are really important to me. I love adventures.

My hobbies are (for example) listening music (from rock to classic), reading, cooking, writing, postcrossing and drawing. I’m creative person: I come up with ideas and like to say my thoughts aloud… As you might have noticed from the pic, I have red hair, so that is one of my feature that pops me out of the mass.
That’s all (or part of it) what you need to know about me. Please, send me a friend request in facebook and contact me! JJJ
BR, Anniina

AND BTW, I'm coming to Kunta Hora in January! See ya! :----)

Moomins

As I was thinking about topics I could write about in this blog, I got an idea of sharing with you a Finnish classic I just love myself: The Moomins. They are among the most popular fairytale characters here. The Moomins were created by a Finnish Swedish (a Finnish person who has Swedish as his/her native language, there are about 300,000 of them in Finland) author, Tove Jansson, in the 1930's. She drew numerous Moomin comics and wrote ten novels and a few other books about them. They became very popular, also internationally, and the rest is history.

What is the whole Moomin thing about at all, then? Moomins are trolls. The Moomin family lives in a peaceful valley where they also have a lot of friends. They live in peace and know how to enjoy life. The world of Moomins is very idyllic.

There isn't a single Finnish person who wouldn't know what Moomins are. They have become a crucial part of especially the children's culture, but other generations love them as well. The Japanise Moomin TV show is the first series I remember having watched. A couple of years ago I got really interested in the clever stories and beautiful language of the Moomin novels. The books were originally children's books but they are pretty philosophical and deal with deep issues so they are not particularly easy to read. They have become popular among adults. In addition to the books, comics ans TV series, there are also Moomin songs, movies, plays and children's books based on the TV show and written by someone else than Jansson. We even have a Moomin theme park!

In Finland, Moomins have become pop culture like Mickey Mouse. They are simply everywhere. There are Moomin toys, dishes which many people collect, clothes, computer and board games, stamps, soda and other food...

Moomins have and will hopefully always have a place in our hearts.

Jan Pospisil

Hi Everyone!

I would like to tell you something about my last holidays. I was with my family on the Greek island of Corfu. We were there for 7 days. Every day was perfect weather, so we enjoyed that very much. Corfu is very beautiful, people there are very friendly and food was great. We were there for cycling and diving, we drove about 250 km around the island. We did four great dives, i was 34m below sea level. The best bike trip was on the mountain Pandocrator. It is the highest mountain on Corfu (916m).
I really want to go back on Corfu , because I like nice weather and sea. In the Czech Republic we have neither :(

Sara Oikarinen

                                                                                                      Hi everyone!

I'm Sara Oikarinen, 17 years old and I live in Finland. I'm a student in an international upper secondary school (International Baccalaureate) that is part of Oulun Lyseon lukio.
I'm very excited about this Comenius-project we're having! It's so nice to get known with many new people, learn more about different kind of cultures, languages and so on.. I applied for this project because in my previous school I also attended a project like this and enjoyed my time a lot in that group.
At this moment I'm quite busy because of my school. So when ever I have some free time I really want to be with my friends and have some time with them that I'm not just studying all the time. My hobbies are singing in a choir and playing the piano. I'm also very interested in all kind of sports for instance: running, rollerblading, skiing, skating.. And I have to say I love travelling! I'd like to visit in as many countries as possible during my lifetime. It's so cool to travel somewhere especially if you have some relatives abroad and you're able to stay with them while travelling. That's a way how you can improve your knowledge of some country's habits very well, learn languages more effectively, and have an unforgettable time of your life! :)
Can't wait to see you! Please just add me as your facebook friend if I'm not your friend there yet.

Eeva Pennanen

Hello! :)

My name is Eeva Pennanen. I was born the 5th of February 1994. I live with my family in Oulu, Finland and I go to Oulun Lyseon lukio.

I´m very excited about this Comenius project, because I like to meet new people and I find foreign countries and languages really interesting. In fact languages are my favourite subjects in the school; I study English, German and Swedish. I also have started to learn Russian. In the autumn I'll go to Germany as a exchange student for a couple of months.

In my spare time I coach little 3-6 year-old children. I try to teach them how to do all kinds of track-and-field things but I have to say they prefer play tag... Once a week I go to drama club. I think acting is a wonderful hobby and at same time it's very useful ! I also like jogging and cross-country skiing (maybe because we have so much snow in winters here in Oulu!) . It´s lovely to read books too, and of course spend time with my friends. :)

Hey guys, Susanna here!

Hey everybody!

I'm Susanna, 17 years old and I live in Finland. I'm a quite lively person who laughs a lot and gets excited by little things such as sunshine, soap bubbles or a stranger holding a grocery store door for me.

My greatest passion is music - it's just so relaxing and gives me so much pleasure. I've played the piano since I was six and I sing in a band. I also play the guitar. Alternative and pop punk are my favorites but of course I also listen to other genres. The other one of my dearest hobbies is literature. I love reading novels and poems and I write poems and short stories myself.

Of course my dear friends are also a big part of my life - I just love those people. They are the ones trying to tell me to stop worrying about school too much which I sometimes do - I take my studies pretty seriously.

I'm looking forward to meeting so many of you as possible! And hey all the French people: you have to help me improve my French!

Czech hockey team

Czech hockey team is one of the best in the world. We’ve already won few world championships. Ice hockey is czech’s national sports so we always fan when we play some competition. We have players like Jagr, Rucinky, Elias, Havlat, Kaberle, Rachunek but these names are known for only hockey fans so Italians and French will not know them I guess but Finns will know them I think. We won the world championship in Germany last year and we were third in world championsip in Slovakia this year. Every Every Czech men celebrate the victory of our team. People fan in squares, pubs and at home. We love that sport.
